Workshop at Museu do Oriente

I will teach a phulkari embroidery and envelop bag workshop at the Museu do Oriente in Lisbon on the 12th of October 2024. The workshop will run for a total 6 hours and 30 minutes. You can book the workshop here

In this class, you will make a guided motif of Phulkari, the folk embroidery of Punjab, and make an envelope pouch. I will share the traditional types of Phulkari embroideries and will demonstrate the conventional technique of making a Bagh Phulkari motif, with darning stitch, herringbone, and one-sided satin stitch on a naturally dyed hand-spun cotton base with cotton floss. Additionally, I will explore contemporary approaches and discuss how different thread counts affect the density of a pattern. By the end of the class, you will have the skills to create a Bagh Phulkari motif and apply this knowledge to craft larger, more intricate works.
All materials are provided as a kit for this class.
