“I had an amazing weekend traveling to Odemira, where I introduced a wonderful group to the folklore of Phulkari embroidery from Punjab and the classic techniques of natural dyeing.

I embroidered this bag to mark the end of Ramadan and the first day of Eid 2024. I embroidered this design with darning and satin stitches. I used anchor cotton floss and embroidered it on Marygold and iron-dyed cotton.

This small embroidered coin purse is inspired by the traditional purses of the Qing Dynasty. The pouch’s face is dyed with madder roots, embroidered with stranded cotton threads, and lined with fabric which is made using a traditional resist printing technique from Sindh, called Ajrak.
I celebrated the lunar new year by drawing a lot of dragons and embroidering a couple onto Madder Root dyed fabric. I later stitched it into a Chinese Qing dynasty purse. Happy Lunar New Year of the Dragon!
