I will share the traditional types of Phulkari embroideries and will demonstrate the conventional technique of making a Bagh Phulkari motif, with darning stitch, herringbone, and one-sided satin stitch on a naturally dyed hand-spun cotton base with cotton floss. Additionally, I will explore contemporary approaches and discuss how different thread counts affect the density of a pattern. By the end of the class, you will have the skills to create a Bagh Phulkari motif and apply this knowledge to craft larger, more intricate works.
All materials are provided as a kit for this class.
Timeline:
Embroider the pre-drawn motif 10:00 – 13:00
Lunch Break 13:00 – 14:00
Finalize the embroidery surface 14:00 – 15:30
Assemble the pouch bag 15:30 – 17:00
General Questions 17:00 – 17:30

All tickets and bookings are handled by the Museu do Oriente: here

I will teach a phulkari embroidery and envelop bag workshop at the Museu do Oriente in Lisbon on the 12th of October 2024.
